Convergence Is Hawt!

I just noticed something. How many times do you see the meaningless word “convergence” in the list of SxSW 2006 panels?

• Convergence Across Media
• How to Develop Digitally Convergent Content for Autos

• Bootstrapping Tips for Your Digitally Convergent Business
• Convergence and Transformation: A Whole New Business World
• Digital Convergence: Business Models, Investors and Funding
• The Perfect Pitch: How Do I Obtain Funding for My Digital Convergence Business
• Convergence and Advertising

Did anyone really go back and read through this list? If I didn’t know better, I’d think they were trying to SEO this page for “convergence”.

Damn, that is a lot of uses of the word "convergence."

I wouldn't really say "convergence" is a meaningless words, though. In fact, I would say it has so many possible meanings that it becomes semantic overload. We have no idea what exactly it means in each of these titles because it can mean so many different things.

Sort of like the "f" word. :)

It just reminds me of the word "leverage" which has been abused so much that it lost any meaning. Everything is now a leverage that leverages something else.
