Back From SxSW 2005

Well, I’m back from SxSW Interactive. I’d like to apologize to those of you who sent me emails—I was having problems with the internet connection from my hotel and they never resolved the issue. I’ll try to respond within a day or two.

As far as SxSW goes it went really well. To be honest, I expected it to be more focused on technical subjects and less on social aspects of this and that, but it was still worth it. After all, this is not a vacation. I finally got to meet lots of people I knew only virtually from their blogs and web sites, so SxSW Interactive was quite… uumm… interactive.

I’ll put up some pictures here or at Flickr of the folks I met, but those will probably be mostly the ones I took during panels. An interesting thought was voiced at the very last panel that some people might not appreciate seeing pictures of themselves that others took at, say, parties and such. I agree with that opinion, and I’ll first ask everyone for permission to publish them.

I’d like to share one right now, though. I was quite surprised that legendary Robert Scoble, who is famous for starting many an online flame, presented along with Molly Holzschlag at a panel on how to create a brand with a blog.

Rober Scoble at SxSW 2005

Contrary to what you might think, he’s not giving Molly a finger. :) He is actually a nice guy in real life.

Hey, Jeremy, it was great to meet you! I'm hoping there would be more occasion(s) to see everyone before SxSW 2006.

Make sure you catch up on sleep. ;) Shall we book Iron Cactus right now?

Milan, it was nice to meet you. I have to say considering the spat that went on yesterday about Robert and WaSP, I couldn't have viewed this particular picture at a better time. Too funny!

And yes, Robert is good people, despite the fact he likes to stir things up. I've known Robert from before he had a blog, if you can imagine that.

Thanks for the laugh! Too good, too good.

Milan, I don't think we've met, but that's the edge of my Powerbook, and right hand, there in that photo.

Thanks for posting the photo - hilarious.

DL B, I kinda-sorta ran into you in the halls. :) As they say, it takes a person 6 times to remember a commercial. I think by 2011 we all will get to know each other really well.
